How to create a negative priced product

This article is for anyone who needs to create a negative-priced product for use as a coupon or discount with sales tracking.

To create a negatively priced product

  1. Open the Products module.

  2. Click +New.

In the New Product of the Manage Products window, you will need to do the following:

  1. Set a barcode. This can be something you make up or an actual barcode number.

  2. Add a description. If this is a generic coupon, then you can just put coupon but if you mean for this to be a specific type of coupon, you can add more to the description.

  3. Set a cost. This can be 0.

  4. Set a price. It is important to make it negative at this stage by adding a -. If you intend this to always be a specific negative price, you can set it here. If it will be a variable price to apply based on the coupon presented, then just put -1 for now. This will be adjusted with the Ask For Price check box later if needed.

  5. Select an appropriate category.

Next, select the checkboxes that will apply to this product.

  1. Ask for Price - Check this if you want the negative price product to be variable based on the coupon or other discount reason given.

  2. Ask for Quantity should not apply here.

  3. Do not Track in inventory - This is recommended for these products as they are not meant to be an inventory item.

  4. Require Customer on Sale - Optional, but may be good to see who is redeeming these coupons or using these negative price products.

  5. Excluded from All Promotions - This should be checked so it doesn’t give more price-off options as part of using the negative price product.

  6. Excluded from Discounts - This should be checked so it doesn’t give more price-off options as part of using the negative price product.

Click Save when all desired options are selected.

You will then need to manage the product and set it to tax-exempt.

 

Search for the product, and then highlight it and click Manage.

  1. Click the Location Settings tab.

  2. Click Customize in the Override Taxes section.

  3. In the Tax Override window, select all locations where this negative price product can be used at.

  4. Check the Tax Exempt tax.

  5. Click Save

 

If you do not have a Pinogy E-commerce website, then you can hit Save.

If you do have a Pinogy E-commerce website, then you will want to mark this product so it does not show up online.

To do this

  1. Click the E-commerce tab.

  2. Take the check out of Show Online.

  3. Click Save at the bottom.

You can now click Save again to finish creating the product.
