Holiday Gift Card Specials

This article is for helping stores create holiday gift card promotions to use for special sales.

The holiday season is an ideal time to offer gift card specials for your customers. You can do this with various amounts and percentages but For our example we will use a $100 dollar gift discounted to $90 for the sale.

There are two parts for this: Creating the gift card product and creating the promotion.

Creating the Gift Card Product

To create the Gift Card Product to be used please follow the following steps.

1. Open the Products Module.

2. It should default to the Products tab but if not go there.

3. Click New.

4. Set The Barcode to something appropriate. We are using GC100 for this example.

5. Set an appropriate description. We are using Gift Card $100 for this example.

6. Set the Cost to 0 and the Price to the amount you want the gift card to be for. We are using $100 for this example.

7. Set the Category to Gift Cards. Your store may use a different customer category for gift cards that you may need to set it for.

8. Put the check in Do Not Track in Inventory.

9. Click Save when done.

10. Search for and highlight the new gift card product that was made.

11. Click Manage.

12. While in the Manage Product window click on the Location Settings tab.

13. If you need to set the product to be tax exempt you can do that here. This is optional depending on your local laws.

14. If you have a Pinogy E-commerce online store you may not want this item available for all delivery methods. You can remove the Delivery Types that you don’t want the product to be available for here. This is optional. Completely removing the product from any Pinogy E-commerce stores can be done on the E-Commerce tab by taking the check out of Show Online.
    
    

     

15. Click on the Global Settings tab.

16. Put a check in Enable Extended Action and select Gift Card from the drop-down menu. This will cause the system to prompt for the gift card number when one is sold. This must be done to enable that part of the sale.

17. Select Liability from the Product Type drop-down. This is useful for accounting purposes.

18. Click Save when done
    
    

Now that the product is made we can move on to creating the Promotion.

Creating the Promotion

We will be creating a custom promotion for this gift card sale. There may be other suggested promotions supplied by PIDB that you can also use for holidays and events throughout the year. To make the promotion please use the following steps.

1. Open the Products module.

2. Click on the Promotions tab.

3. Click New.

4. Click Create Custom.
   
   

5. Type a Name for the promotion.

6. Set the Type to Amount Off with the drop-down menu. If you want to use other types of discounts you can but for our example we are using Amount Off.

7. Set the Amount Off Each you want to specify for the promotion. We are using $10 for our example but you can do $5, $20, or any other amount you choose. If you selected a different Type for the promotion you can do percentages or a set price for the items. Frequent Buyer is also an option but not recommended for gift cards like this.
   
   

8. Click on the Included Products tab.

9. Click on Add.

10. Search for the Gift Card product you want to add.

11. Highlight the Gift Card product you want to add.

12. Take the check out of Add Another. If you don’t you will need to click Close after adding the item.

13. Click the Add Selected button.

14. Click Save when done.
    
    

Now anytime that gift card is rung up it will automatically apply the discount.
